Penn FC to travel to Pittsburgh to face Riverhounds SC

Harrisburg, Pa – Penn FC will travel west to Pittsburgh on Saturday, March, 10th to take on Riverhounds SC in its second interstate rivalry game of the 2018 preseason.

This will be the first time the Harrisburg and Pittsburgh clubs square off since the launch of Penn FC following the end of the 2017 USL season. The Keystone Derby is one of the oldest rivalries in the USL. Both teams will look to set the tone early in this exhibition and begin its claim for bragging rights during the 2018 Keystone Derby in the regular season.

Riverhounds SC are 7-0-0 in the preseason including one win over fellow in-state USL rival Bethlehem Steel FC. Riverhounds SC picked up six straight wins over college teams and outscored them 15-4 before snagging a 2-0 victory at Steel FC on March 4.

Riverhounds SC experienced a considerable roster makeover in the offseason but now have 21 players under contract. The preseason roster also includes six more invited trialists. Besides the familiarity with the opposing team, Penn FC will have familiarity with two specific players. Midfielder Mouhamed Dabo is under contract with Riverhounds SC after playing in Harrisburg last year. Defender Jamie Thomas also played in Harrisburg last season and is currently an invited trialist in Pittsburgh.

Penn FC are 2-2-0 in the preseason as the roster of mostly new players continues to develop and build chemistry.

Penn FC most recently played at New York City Red Bulls II on March 5. The game provided Penn FC its closest replication to a regular season game yet. After giving up a Red Bulls II goal in the 15th minute, Penn FC’s own blistering attack forced a hard foul from Red Bulls II inside the box. Forward Jorge Rivera converted his penalty kick attempt to equalize only five minutes after Red Bulls II’s opening goal. The teams spent the rest of the game vying for possession with little offensive opportunities appearing. Red Bulls II snagged a late goal in the 81st minute off a set piece that proved to be the game winner.

The game between Penn FC and Riverhounds SC will be played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. and the game is open to the public.
