Penn FC Signs Midfielder Richard Menjivar

El Salvador National Team member joins the Central Pennsylvania club

Harrisburg, PA – Penn FC has officially announced the signing of midfielder Richard Menjivar, pending USL and USSF approval.

The Salvadoran international has represented the United States in the U18 level, and also made an appearance on the El Salvador Olympic qualifying roster in 2012. In 2013, Menjivar made his debut for El Salvador in their opening match of the 2013 Copa Centroamericana, resulting in a 1-1 draw with Honduras.

Menjivar played collegiately at the University of Evansville from 2008-09, before transferring to California State University-Bakersfield in 2010. At Evansville, Menjivar started all 38 games while earning All-Missouri Valley Conference Second Team honors as a freshman and All-Missouri Valley Conference Third Team honors as a sophomore. At CSU-Bakersfield, Menjivar started 17 of 18 games and finished fourth on the team with seven points. Menjivar played with current U.S. Men’s National Team and Columbus Crew SC midfielder Gyasi Zardes at CSU-Bakersfield.

Following his collegiate career, Menjivar spent time with amateur side Cal FC in 2012, before signing with the Atlanta SIlverbacks of the NASL in 2013. Following his run with the Silverbacks, he enjoyed a brief stint with the San Antonio Scorpions in 2014, before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2015, and then signing with the NASL expansion team Rayo OKC in 2016.

Menjivar joins Penn FC in the United Soccer League after five seasons in the North American Soccer League. The Panorama City, CA native logged 92 appearances in the NASL from 2013-17.
