HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn FC officially announces the signing of forward Paulo Morais de Araujo Junior, pending USL and USSF approval.
Paulo’s move to Harrisburg reunites him with Penn FC Head Coach Raoul Voss. Paulo played for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2012-13 while Voss was an assistant with the Strikers. Their familiarity continued as NASL opponents when Paulo played for the Ottawa Fury in 2015-16 while Voss was an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
With Penn FC's offensive volume increasing in recent weeks, Voss is excited to incorporate Paulo's abilities in the attack.
"I've worked with him twice actually in the past -- in Fort Lauderdale," Voss said. "I believe he can bring a spark to any team at this level. He is very good in one-on-one situations and creating chances, so we are hoping he gives us those kinds of things."
A veteran of the American and Canadian soccer leagues, Paulo brings MLS experience after playing for Real Salt Lake from 2010-2012. In total, he played six seasons with Fort Lauderdale along with stints at the Ottawa Fury, Vancouver Whitecaps and Indy Eleven.
A native of Teresina, Brazil, Paulo started his youth career with his hometown club Esporte Clube Flamengo in 2006 before joining Ituano FC in 2008. After making several appearances with Ituano’s senior team, Paulo made the move to the United States and signed with Miami FC in 2009 -- who rebranded as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in 2011.
