LANCASTER, Pa. – Inferno Rush clinched the top spot in the United Women Soccer Eastern Conference after picking up wins over the Rochester Lancers and the Western New York Flash over the weekend.
Inferno Rush’s doubleheader this past weekend against the Lancers and the Flash were matchups against top-three opponents with all three teams in the mix for the conference title. Rush Soccer’s First Team proceeded to take a 3-1 result at Rochester on Saturday, July 7 before earning the conference-clinching 4-2 win at Western New York on Sunday, July 8.
Haley Crawford was on fire over the weekend as she scored six of Inferno’s seven weekend goals including all four goals in the match at Western New York. It was a team effort facilitating her performance as Ashley Chilcoat, Kendra Jones, Teresa Rook (Rynier), Tea McKibben, Megan Carroll and Kay Liebl were all credited with assists on Crawford’s goals.
Ryelle Shuey rounded out the Inferno goalscorers with a 91st minute dagger to seal the 3-1 victory at Rochester.
Leading into the weekend, Inferno Rush players picked up individual awards from the UWS. Chilcoat was named as the UWS Defensive player of the Week while Rook (Rynier) was named to the UWS Team of the Week.
Inferno Rush’s form has lived up to the namesake. The team is on a five match winning streak and 7-2-0 on the season. Furthermore, the team’s chemistry on offense and defense has created one of the most efficient teams in the eastern conference. Tied for second in the conference in goals scored, Inferno conceded a conference-low nine goals and ranks first in the conference with a +13 goal differential.
Despite clinching the conference, Inferno Rush still have one final regular season match when it hosts the Long Island Rough Riders at Manheim Township High School on Saturday, July 14 at 3 p.m.
